Sin:

Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality:

  • The only legitimate marriage, based on the creation ordinance in Genesis 1 and 2, sanctioned by God is the joining of one naturally born man and one naturally born woman in a single, exclusive union as delineated in Scripture. God intends sexual intimacy to only occur between a man and a woman who are married to each other and has commanded that no sexual activity be engaged in outside of marriage. Any form of sexual immorality, such as adultery, fornication (sex between two or more unmarried persons), prostitution, homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, pornography, abuse, or any attempt to change one’s gender, or disagreement with one’s biological gender, is sinful and offensive to God (Genesis 1:27–282:24Matthew 5:27–3019:4-5Mark 10:2–91 Corinthians 6:9–111 Thessalonians 4:3–7Hebrews 13:4).
  • Gender and biological sex are equivalent and cannot be separated. A person’s gender is determined at conception (fertilization), coded in the DNA, and cannot be changed by drugs, hormones, or surgery. Rejection of one’s biological sex (gender) or identifying oneself by the opposite sex is a sinful rejection of the way God made that person. These truths must be communicated with compassion, love, kindness, and respect, pointing everyone to the truth that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking his mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ (Genesis 1:26–285:1–2Psalm 51:5139:13–16Jeremiah 1:5Matthew 1:20–2119:4–6Mark 10:6Luke 1:31Acts 3:19–21Romans 10:9–101 Corinthians 6:9–11Galatians 3:28).
  • The only identity for a Christian is that we are new creations in Christ and that this identity cannot be subordinate to or conjoined with any other identity such as “Gay Christian” or “Trans Christian”. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Galatians 2:20)
  • Christ can bring healing to those who struggle with their gender identity, and they can be transformed to embrace their biological sex. We reject teachings that same-sex attraction or gender identities other than one’s biological sex are inborn or God-given. Rather, these desires are the result of sin including sins committed against them, sinful responses to sin committed against them (such as bitterness and rejection), and the evil lusts of our hearts from our sinful nature. (Mark7:20-23, Romans 1:18-32, Romans 12:1-2, James 1:13-15, Hebrews 12:15-16)
  • All sin can be overcome by the power of Christ, including sinful sexual desires. (Romans 6:6, 1 Corinthians 10:13, Galatians 5:16-17)
  • Lusting in the heart is the same as sexual sin to God and only leads to acting out those desires (Matthew 5:27-30, Romans 1:18-32, Mark7:20-23, Luke 11:34-36).
  • We believe we must speak the truth in love on gender and sexuality as in any other areas of Scripture. Although we do not always bring up the topic, and we do not purposely offend anyone, we refuse to celebrate or affirm sinful desires or lifestyles as being good or in alignment with a commitment to Christ. (Proverbs 28:23, Proverbs 29:5, Acts 15:20, Romans 1:32, 1 Corinthians 13:6)
